Mohammed Miah

Professional Award

My name is Mo Miah, and I’m an Associate Director working in the field of corporate finance. I’m a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) with over ten years of post-qualified experience, and I’ve spent much of my career helping business owners navigate one of the most significant moments in their professional lives, selling their business. While I may not save lives in the traditional sense, I take great pride in knowing that my work helps transform them. By unlocking the value of years of hard work, I enable owners to secure their financial futures, support their families, and often pass on a legacy to the next generation. That impact is deeply meaningful to me.
I work within the professional services sector, and my role involves advising clients on mergers, acquisitions, and business disposals. What drew me to this field was the opportunity to combine technical expertise with human connection. Every transaction is unique, and behind every deal is a story of ambition, resilience, and personal sacrifice. Being able to guide clients through these complex processes and help them achieve optimum outcomes is incredibly rewarding.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the role I’ve played in mentoring and developing others. Over the years, I’ve supported junior colleagues and peers through training, coaching, and informal guidance, helping them grow in confidence and capability. Seeing others succeed and knowing I’ve played a part in their journey is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career. More recently, I’ve taken a lead role in establishing a new professional network in the North East, aimed at connecting and empowering minority finance professionals across the region. The network is set to launch soon, and I’m excited about the potential it has to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and create opportunities for others.
Throughout my career, I’ve tried to lead with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to inclusion. I believe that leadership isn’t just about titles, it’s about influence, example, and impact. Whether it’s championing diverse voices, encouraging open dialogue, or simply being approachable and supportive, I strive to create environments where people feel valued and heard. I’ve also had to overcome challenges, particularly early in my career when navigating spaces where I didn’t always see people who looked like me or shared my background. Those experiences have shaped my perspective and strengthened my resolve to be a visible role model for others who may be on similar paths.
Being nominated for this award is a genuine honour. Professionally, it’s a recognition of the work I’ve done and the values I’ve tried to uphold. Personally, it’s a reminder of how far I’ve come and how important it is to keep giving back. If I were to win, I hope it would inspire others, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue their ambitions with confidence and know that they belong in these spaces too.
