Shamin Ali
Professional Award
My name is Shamin Ali, and I am a Partner and Solicitor in the Private Family Law Department at Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors, where I have practiced for the last nine years. I have been part of the legal profession for 19 years, exclusively specialising in Family Law. In 2024, I was proud to be promoted to Partner, a recognition of my dedication, leadership, and contribution to the firm and profession.
Alongside my legal career, I have recently founded SA Properties Agency Ltd, an independent estate agency specialising in the luxury property market. My vision is to combine my legal expertise with a bespoke, client-focused service to create a trusted name in real estate. This entrepreneurial journey reflects my drive to broaden opportunities, embrace new challenges, and deliver excellence across sectors.
My inspiration to pursue law came from witnessing how the legal system can provide clarity and protection when life feels overwhelming. As a divorcee myself, I deeply empathise with clients navigating the emotional and practical challenges of separation and divorce. This personal connection has strengthened my commitment to being a voice for the vulnerable and advocating for fairness.
Some of my career highlights include establishing and managing a flagship office for a national London firm, growing teams and mentoring junior lawyers to shape their careers. I have contributed to the “Register Our Marriage” campaign, advocating for legal reform to recognise Islamic marriages, including setting up a Newcastle roadshow. I was honoured as one of the first “Awesome Women of ABC” in 2019, where I co-led initiatives to raise funds and provide meals for NHS workers during the pandemic.
I am actively supporting charitable and humanitarian causes, including co-founding Sisters for Gaza with Muslims in Need, raising £20,000 in a few months. In April 2025, I travelled to Egypt to support displaced Palestinian refugees and am now working on education and mental health projects in Egypt.
As an Asian Muslim woman, I have often had to work twice as hard to establish my authority in the legal profession and now in real estate. What once were challenges have become my strengths, enabling me to navigate bias and underestimation with resilience. This journey has made me not only a professional but also a role model for diversity, leadership, and empowerment.
I take pride in inspiring and mentoring the next generation, particularly young women, to believe that they can thrive despite personal or cultural barriers. I hope to demonstrate that diversity and determination are powerful drivers of positive change.
Winning an Asian Business Connections Award would honour my journey, celebrate my resilience, and recognise the values of hard work and service drawn from my heritage. More importantly, it would allow me to stand as a stronger role model, proving that commitment, compassion, and showing that leadership can create lasting impact.
