Alosh K Jose

Alosh K. Jose’s lifelong passion for cricket began at the age of four in India, where the sport is deeply ingrained in the culture. His early years playing cricket shaped his friendships and connection to the game. After moving to the UK in 2018 to pursue a Master’s in Sports Management at Northumbria University, Alosh noticed the significant barriers to playing cricket in the UK. The sport was both expensive and time-consuming, making it inaccessible for many, a stark contrast to the cricket culture in India. This experience inspired him to create change.

In 2020, Alosh founded Cricketqube, a social enterprise with a mission to promote physical activity, well-being, and social cohesion through cricket. Focusing on underserved ethnic minority communities and older adults, Cricketqube operates across the North East, offering accessible cricket programs that have led to a noticeable improvement in community health, including a reduction in GP visits among participants. This initiative has been transformative in demonstrating the power of sport to enhance well-being and build stronger communities.

Under Alosh’s leadership, Cricketqube has grown to offer 12 community sessions weekly, reaching over 1,000 participants each year. The sessions cater to a broad age range, with participants as young as three and as old as 104, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the programs. Cricketqube is particularly focused on engaging South Asian and Black communities, ensuring that these underrepresented groups have opportunities to enjoy and benefit from the sport.

Beyond Cricketqube, Alosh is deeply committed to promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in sports. As a board member of Hunslet Rugby League FC, he has led the club’s EDI programme, fostering a more inclusive environment and attracting a diverse fan base. His experience in developing culturally sensitive cricket programs has been key to making sports more inclusive for underrepresented groups.

Alosh also plays a role in shaping the future of sports leadership through his work as an Advisory Board Member at Newcastle College, where he helps refine the sports management curriculum, ensuring students are prepared with the latest industry skills and knowledge.

Through his work with Cricketqube and beyond, Alosh K. Jose is driving social change, using sport as a tool to foster healthier, more inclusive communities. His vision is to continue expanding Cricketqube’s reach, working with other like-minded organizations to address barriers and create lasting, positive impact for underrepresented communities.
